Themes and extensions
Pick a theme, install Zed themes and languages, and manage extensions.
Themes
Rexa ships one theme, Deep Space. More themes come from Zed theme extensions.
- Pick a theme in Settings → General → Appearance → Theme, or run theme: switch for a live preview. Your choice is saved as
theme.name. - Install a theme with Install theme… in the same list. It opens the extension installer filtered to themes.
- Use a theme file with
theme.path, pointing at a Zed theme JSON file or extension folder. - Adjust colors with
theme.overrides, using Zed theme color keys.

}Extensions
Open Extensions from the button at the bottom of the Projects sidebar. Filter by All, Rexa or Zed, and enable, disable, update or remove each one.
Bundled extensions
The agent adapters for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor Agent, OpenCode and Pi ship with Rexa. You can disable them but not remove them. See Supported agents.
Zed extensions
Rexa installs extensions from Zed’s registry and uses their:
- Themes
- Languages and grammars for syntax highlighting and the symbol outline
- Language servers, downloaded by the extension
Run extensions: install from the command palette, search, and press ↵. Narrow the list with kind:theme or store:zed. Installed extensions live in ~/.config/rexa/zed-extensions/.
Extensions you installed in the Zed app also appear, as zed-local:<id>, and start disabled, except theme-only ones.
Zed context servers, debug adapters and icon themes are not supported.
From the command line
rexa extension ls # installed extensions
rexa extension search zed:python # search the Zed registry
rexa extension install zed:catppuccin
rexa extension outdated # Zed extensions with newer releases
rexa extension disable <id>
rexa extension remove <id>Local extensions
rexa extension install <path> installs a Rexa extension from a folder, as a link (or a copy with --copy). There is no registry for Rexa extensions yet.
